The British and Irish Lions will have a fight on their hands when they take on the most successful Super Rugby franchise, the Crusaders, in Christchurch.
The clash between the successful Crusaders and the 2017 British and Irish Lions takes place on 10 June and the garden city of Christchurch will be buzzing with excitement at the chance to host players and supporter of the 2017 tour.
The 18,000 capacity AMI Stadium has seen some major international sporting action in recent times, having hosted FIFA U-20 football matches. It is also a regular stop for the All Blacks during the Investec Rugby Championship. Christchurch is also venue for a game between the All Blacks and South Africa on 17 September as part of the 2016 tournament.
Christchurch is bursting with new vigour and overflowing with bars, restaurants, inspirational art and creativity as it reinvents itself in the wake of the 2011 earthquake.
One of the most symbolic modern features is the Transitional ‘cardboard’ Cathedral - an innovative structure made from cardboard, wood and steel. The structure along with a clever city hub of retrospective art, a pop-up retail mall made out of shipping containers and some innovative bars and restaurants led Lonely Planet to name Christchurch as one of the top places in the world to visit in 2014.
