Once a month the train goes all the way to the lovely town of Oamaru where the train stops for one hour - stroll around the historic precinct or check out the wildly quirky Steam Punk Museum. There is an alternative option to disembark at the Moeraki Boulders for a couple of hours to view the boulders.
