The almighty Aoraki (Mt Cook) thrusts skyward lording over the sprawling peaks of snow covered alps below. This is MacKenzie country, a region filled with boutique ski fields of Roundhill, Mt Dobson and Ohau that will grip your heart with Kiwi hospitality.

Add thermal hot springs, a Unesco  star-lit observatory and the photographer’s dream destination of Lake Tekapo and Mackenzie stands on its own two ski feet.

Recommended Experiences

  • Beginner skiers will love

Mt Dobson has the longest beginners slope in New Zealand and three quarters of the 400 hectares are dedicated to beginners and intermediates so it’s a great place to get your first time ski and snowboard legs.

  • Experienced skiers will love

Two words. Mt Cook. You may have to wait a few days for a weather window but the heli skiing will be worth it. The terrain here is simply off the hook and what better boasting rights than to say you’ve skied New Zealand’s tallest terrain.
