The combination of fantastic weather, cycle-friendly terrain, stunning scenery and established food and wine experiences make the Hawke’s Bay an ideal cycling destination.
The Hawke’s Bay Cycle Trails are mostly flat, making up a river and coastal network of pathways stretching over the Heretaunga Plains. There are three different cycling experiences to enjoy on your trip; The Water Ride, The Landscape Ride and The Wineries Ride.
Day 1 / 3
The Water Ride is flat, easy and perfect for families. In Napier, Bay View and Westshore are great places to start riding, continuing on to the seaside village of Ahuriri with its bustling cafés, shops and bars. You can then cycle along picturesque Marine Parade with panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean.
For those after a little more adventure, choose to extend the ride to include the Taradale loop. Experience the renowned Church Road and Mission Estate wineries. Alternatively, head to the Ahuriri Estuary, a sanctuary for endangered wetland wildlife, or to the quaint Puketapu settlement with its charming hotel, restaurant, general store and church.
Don’t miss learning about local history, endangered wildlife, world class wineries and the bustling seaside precinct of Ahuriri.
Beautifully preserved 1930s architecture is Napier's special point of difference.
