Location, location, location is the key here as Horopito is the starting point of the famous Ohakune Old Coach Road Cycle /Walking trail. It is also the ideal staging point for most of the region's activities such as the world renowned Tongariro Crossing which is just a leisurely 30 minute drive from Horopito. It is also the end of the first leg of the Mountains to the Sea Cycle trail, when starting this trail in Ohakune. Other activities include quadbiking, paddle boarding, a variety of cycle trails are a 15 minute drive away and the Whanganui River adventures are just a 45minute drive away as well.
For Ski bunnies Horopito is the ideal base as the settlement is located exactly halfway between the Turoa and Whakapapa Ski fields which are both just 30 minutes drive to the car parking areas. Most accommodation providers offer stunning views of the Turoa Skifields from their rooms.
Horopito is also located halfway between Auckland and Wellington and makes an ideal ovenright stop, to recharge your batteries.
