The Kai Iwi Lakes are a family favourite, boasting safe swimming, trout fishing, kayaking and waterskiing. And for those wanting to explore on foot, there are plenty of land options too - walking tracks and mountain biking opportunities amongst the pine trees.
The Kai Iwi Lakes is a cluster made up of Lake Kai Iwi, Lake Taharoa and Lake Waikere. Walk them all in a 2-3 hour, 10km stroll. Or, like many families, enjoy the basic camping facilities and get away from the city.
