My stopover in New Zealand

A taste of New Zealand exploring Auckland’s stunning Waiheke Island and the Coromandel Peninsula

New Zealand was never on my radar, but I did manage a stopover for a few nights en route to Australia and was completely blown away.

We spent the day at Waiheke Island, a wonderful scenic cruise from the beautiful Auckland Harbour, sit at the back of the boat for excellent views.  We enjoyed a delicious lunch at Mudbrick, with succulent wines from the Mudbrick winery, followed by walks on one of the most beautiful white sandy beaches and visits to local artists’ studios. The following day we drove to Hotel de Vin for another excellent lunch with wines from the Hotel de Vin Winery, before travelling onwards to the Coromandel Peninsula for two nights at the Grand Mecure Puka Park Lodge.

We enjoyed two days of total relaxation and exploration of one of New Zealand’s most beautiful areas. Hot Water Beach was amazing! We dug holes and sat with our feet in steaming water bubbling through the sand, before visiting the spectacular Cathedral Cove. We are now planning our holiday to spend a few weeks touring both Islands using some of New Zealand’s fabulous B&B’s and luxury lodges. And of course, we will be visiting a few wineries, travelling with my dedicated driver!
