Art Deco 

There are 140 different buildings in Napier that you can see as you walk along the streets to admire the Art Deco style.  Some of the popular buildings worth a stop to see the unique geometric and eclectic style are the Municipal Theatre and National Tobacco Company.  The Art Deco Weekend Summer Festival held in February is a fun time to visit to enjoy music, food, film and over 100 events.       

Don’t miss the Art Deco by guided tour in the morning, afternoon, held all year round, except Christmas Day, rain or shine.  Evenings, from Labour Weekend to 31 March, duration 1 – 2 hours.  Complementary booklet with information about the 1931 earthquake and the buildings that come after.

Wine and food

The Hawke’s Bay region is a foodie’s paradise with great local flavours to sample and enjoy.  The New Zealand Wine Centre will take you on a journey to learn about how the region’s wines are made and you can grab a packaged four course lunch option to sample the fine flavours.  You can also go on a bike tour to see Napier’s stunning views and vineyards to taste the premium wines.  

Hawkes's Bay Trails can offer beginner riders, keen cyclists, walkers and runners 180km of on-road and off-road trails where you will see everything from mountainous lookouts and beautiful lowland rivers to endangered wetland wildlife and the sweeping Hawkes's Bay coastline.  Choice of 4 Rides: Water Ride, Landscapes Ride, Wineries Ride and iWay.  We have the brochures in reception to help.

Parks and Gardens

There are several different gardens in Napier to enjoy a nice walk or picnic.  Water is a central theme at the Centennial Gardens with a waterfall, rock pools and grassy areas offer peaceful landscapes.  Another garden to explore is the Napier Botanical Gardens, which contains 18 acres to walk through and see the duck pond, plants and flowerbeds. 

Marine Parade

Take a walk along the Rotary Pathway to enjoy the beautiful sea views.  Stop at the National Aquarium of New Zealand, check out more Art Deco buildings that line the pathway, stop at the Tom Parker Fountain or the Ocean Spa.  Take your time and stop at your leisure to grab a meal at one of the restaurants or cafes after a casual stroll.
