Odlin Timber Track

With great views, climbs and bushland, a fantastic track for the experienced tramper.

Though the track goes all the way to Orange Peel Corner (providing access to the Huia area networks), this track is most used for the access it provides to the Pararaha and Cowans Stream. This is a pity as combining the track with the Walker Ridge, Muir, Pararaha Valley, Buck Taylor and Zion Ridge Tracks makes for a complicated sounding but actually great half day loop walk with some great views, good climbs and not much in the way of crowds. Odlins track itself can be slippery under foot and care should be taken after wet weather and during winter. Though the Pararaha and Cowans Stream are popular off track routes they are not maintained by park staff and not recommended for people new to tramping. Please seek advice from the Arataki Visitor Centre or Canyonz (a registered guiding company) if you are thinking of going in these areas.

What to expect:

The closest toilets are a long drop at the Odlins 2 Campground (bring your own toilet paper), where the track crosses the Cowans Stream. Other wise Toilets are available at the Karekare Beach car park area. From the parking area on Lone Kauri Road, take the track following parallel to the road (not the one heading up the hill) track after about 50 metres descends to the Pararaha Stream. Cross the stream and ascend following and old cutting over saddle, across Cowan Stream and up a long spur to Orange Peel Corner.
