Take the Queenstown gondola up behind the town centre and ride on one of two exciting scenic luge tracks. The Skyline luge is two great activities in one, making it very affordable and worthwhile. Queenstown offers the spectacular setting of Lake Wakatipu and the Remarkables mountain range, so the location of the luge allows for a breath-taking panorama of the entire landscape.
There are two different activities to do once you reach the Skyline Restaurant at the top. Firstly take some time to check out the view, it’s truly one of a kind. Afterwards, head up on a chairlift to the top of the luge course.
There are two Queenstown luge tracks, catering for the adventurous to those who are nervous. Each track has its own route and set of corners and dips but both are very safe. Choose from a “Scenic” or “Advanced” track, depending on your confidence level.
- The Scenic track is good for beginners or those who want to have an adventure at their own pace.
- The Advanced track is slightly steeper so you can really speed around corners and get the adrenaline flowing.
Once you’ve chosen your track, make sure your helmet is secure and then go!
The purpose built luge carts are designed so that the rider is in control. You can choose to go faster or slower, just by tilting the handle bars. This means that if you are nervous you can take your time or if you want more of a thrill you can speed up. There are also reliable brakes, in case you want to stop. The carts are safe and really easy to use.
Once you reach the bottom, you can ride the track again, for an additional small cost. It’s hard to stop at one ride!
The luge is also a great option for groups, families and students as it is an affordable attraction, and is walking distance from the town. A race to the bottom is often the case when groups and children are involved, so get ready for some competition!
Photos are available when you are in the gondola and also on the luge track. These are a great way to preserve the fun memories you will have from the Skyline luge.
