Dunedin is blessed with its abundance of wildlife! From Albatross, to Penguins, Fur Seals and Sea Lions, just some of the huge array of marine life that visits the coastline of the Otago Peninsula.
Already in my short time in Dunedin I have been lucky enough to view some of its more sporatic visitors such as Southern Right Whales, Humpback Whales, Orca, and 3 Dolphin species not to mention the huge variety of pelagic bird life that can be seen just offshore.
For the bird watchers out there, Dunedin is a hot spot! Up to 7 species of Albatross can be viewed offshore aswell as an abundance of shearwaters and petrels along with many other sea and land based bird life close by!
Seeing some of this type of wildlife is not an every day occurance, but it certainly happens, and it gives you a great appreciation of the wealth of the oceans that surround us!
A cruise onboard M.V. Monarch is the best way to chance you hand to see some of this marine based wildlife in its natural environment.
Having now spent nearly 3 years as a tour guide in the area I have been lucky enough to encounter so much of this wildlife, and have been more than happy to show it all off to the travellers who pass our way, we look forward to seeing you here......
