Sure, the region offers a plethora of activities, sights, sounds and attractions year round, but summer time brings people from all walks of life to the district as the events calendar simply explodes with opportunities.
Whether you’re taking part in one of the many sporting events in the region, or heading along to show your support, you’re in for a treat as the region swells and comes to life amidst a hive of activity.
The Ironman 70.3 Taupo and big brother event, the Kellogs Nutri-Grain Ironman New Zealand are undoubtedly two of the region’s most iconic events. In February, the Taupo Great Lake Relay, now in its 21st year, sees teams of runners circumnavigate the Great Lake by foot. If pedal power is more your thing then the Contact Lake Taupo Cycle Challenge will fit the bill nicely. With a host of options catering to mountain bikers, team riders, junior cyclists or the classic 160km lap of Lake Taupo.
If you prefer a knees up rather than getting a sweat up, the Taupo Summer Concert is where you want to be. The line up this January sees Melissa Etheridge, Huey Lewis and The News, and REO Speedwagon take to the stage in what is quickly becoming a firm Taupo favourite on the events calendar. Drawing crowds from across New Zealand, this is an awesome day out with family and friends.
The Wanderlust Festival will also be returning to Taupo in February 2016. Bringing together exceptional yoga and meditation instructors, musicians, speakers, artists and chefs for transformational retreats in the world’s most awe-inspiring natural resorts. So whether you’d rather race, dance, relax or party - Taupo has an event for everyone!
Don’t forget while you’re visiting the region there’s an enviable line up of adventure activities and attractions waiting to be explored. Rain, hail or shine, the Great Lake Taupo region is not only the Events Capital of New Zealand but also an adventure mecca.
Bungy, extreme swing, skydive, rafting, jet boating, scenic cruises, golf, kayaking the list goes on. Rest assured we can cram your days with as much excitement as you can handle.
