Alpine Awesomeness
The Ball Pass Crossing – New Zealand’s highest guided trek - 3 days viewing the best of Aoraki Mount Cook National Park
Yes, The Ball Pass Trek puts you way up there! Not only do you get to have a full frontal view of Aoraki’s awesome Caroline Face, but by trekking up the Ball Ridge to Caroline Hut you feel on top of the world, with the Tasman Glacier far below you on one side and the Ball Glacier on the other side. The excitement doesn’t stop there. Once you’re at Caroline Hut you can watch – and hear – ice avalanches tumbling down the ice face opposite, while watching the sun set on Mt Tasman, conveniently framed through Cinerama Col.
You have two nights at the cosy Caroline Hut, a mountain refuge sleeping just 8 participants and two guides, who do all the cooking and take good care of you. They’ll teach you how to use crampons and ice-axe and take you up Kaitiaki Peak on Day 2 for a grand view of the South Ridge of Mount Cook – one of Sir Edmund Hillary’s training climbs for Everest.
