The Kepler Track, located in the spectacular Fiordland National Park, is just the place to have your own 'above the clouds' Great Walks experience. Experience amazing alpine scenery, and enjoy the forests and native birdlife.
Managed by the Department of Conservation (DOC), the 60km Kepler Track takes 3-4 days and is easily accessible from Te Anau.
On the first day walk along the shore of Lake Te Anau, before climbing up to 1100m to reach Luxmore Hut. The next day there are amazing views over the lake and across to the Murchison Mountains. Descend into the Iris Burn Valley for your overnight stay. On the third day, enjoy the beautiful beech forest on the way to Moturau Hut on the shores of Lake Manapouri.
The best time to go is from late October to late April, the Kepler Track Great Walks season. Bookings for accommodation at DOC huts are essential during this time.
Walkers need to be self-sufficient, well-prepared and equipped for changeable alpine weather conditions.
