Wellspring’s Deer farm is 110 ha’s,
Beef Cattle and Sheep farm 115ha’s
Pinus Radiata Forests covers 72 ha’s
with a Dairy Farm across the road
The farm borders the Kakahu River with a
lovely Oak tree lined paddock,
called “The Kakahu Park”.
A popular place for Ice Skating, trout
and eel spotting /fishing, picnicking and camping

500 Breeding Hinds Red Deer
Mated to a NZ Fiordland Wapiti
or Pure Red Stag
Fawning begins around the
20th of Nov— Feb
200 Yearlings stags are finished
for export to Germany and
200 New Replacement Hinds mated at 15 months
15 Mating stags
200 R1 Fresian/Angus Bull Calves
100 R2 Big Fresian Bulls for
export to USA for Burger King
and McDonalds hamburgers.
500 Composite Coopworth sheep,
Mated to a Meat Max Ram
750 Prime NZ Lambs for chilled
export to UK, USA or Europe.
Wool grown for making hand knotted or machine made Carpets
and rugs Is sold to mainly to China, Pakistan, India or Iran
Pelts and skins are exported to Turkey and China.
Velvet popular in Hong Kong, Taiwan, Korean, China
is used in Chinese medicines and
performance sports medicines and health products.
The 150 Year History of Wellspring Farm can be found in the
“Farm Folder” in the Aoraki Cottage.
Paddocks are named after native trees and birds.
A series of Native Bush trails are marked which you can walk.
Ask about The Pukeko,Bellbird and Fantail trails.(Allow 1-2hrs)
A Pasture stroll down to the Weka pond or across the paddocks
descending further to Kakahu River is a popular excursion.
Accomadation is available on farm @ Aoraki Cottage B&B
