The Lighthouse was first lit in 1910 and stands at the entrance to the Bay of Islands; it stands at 14m high and is one of three lighthouses in New Zealand to utilise mercury bath technology. The lighthouse keeper's cottage was built in 1908 and is very typical for the early 20th century. It's the only remaining lighthouse left in Northland of its kind.
