Nelson Lakes National Park is situated in the northernmost ranges of the Southern Alps. Although best known for its lakes, both large and small, this 101,733 hectare park offers tranquil beech forest, craggy mountains, clear streams, open tussock lands and river-edge clearings.
Situated in the north of New Zealand's South Island, the gateway to the park is St Arnaud,1-2 hour's drive from Nelson or Blenheim.
Choose a short walk or a longer hike along one of the many Walking Tracks at Lake Rotoiti.
More experienced hikers can take the multi-day challenge of the Mount Angelus tracks. The Angelus Hut is situated high on the ranges between Lakes Rotoiti and Rotoroa. Bookings are required from November to April.
