This township was a key location during the filming of The Lord of the Rings trilogy. Glenorchy is on the quiet side, with a great atmosphere and loads of outdoor activities- including Lord of the Rings walking tours.
This charming little town is located at the south end of Lake Wakatipu and is home to the famous Kingston Flyer. Just a quick 45-minute lakeside drive from Queenstown, it is the perfect destination for a day trip or a nice stop on your way to Fiordland.
Take a day trip to Fiordland from Queenstown or spend the night and enjoy the world famous fiords, awe-inspiring scenery, and amazing local wildlife. Fiordland offers unforgettable nature experiences.
Take a 50-minute drive from Queenstown over the Crown Range and you’ll find Lake Wanaka. This charming lakeside town is a great day trip from Queenstown.
