24 hours notice required of a cancellation for a full refund (minus bank fees). $30 saddle fee (each horse) required for late cancellation. Operator may cancel ride for any event that endangers the safety of the participants eg adverse weather conditions and treacherous track conditions for a full refund (minus bank fees).
After 31 years in the Cardrona Valley Backcountry Saddle Expeditions has firmly entrenched itself in the history of the area by moving into the original wool-shed on Mt Cardrona Station.
Overshadowed by Mt Cardrona, home of the popular Cardrona Ski Resort, Backcountry Saddles offers rides out onto the grass covered plateau high above the valley floor. We splash through crystal clear spring fed creeks, wind through native matagouri and kanuka scrub and marvel at the beauty of Cardrona's rugged landscape.
Appaloosa horses are our chosen breed of horse with impeccable temperament and sure-footedness in mountainous conditions. Combined with the security of a western saddle they are a proven safe and reliable way to explore the valley.
