The Point Elizabeth Walkway is a popular walking track with locals and visitors, the walk can be done in it's entirety as a return walk taking 3hours or to the lookout is a 1 1/2hr return walk. The varied coastal/bush walk has excellent sea views(keep an eye out for New Zealand fur seals dozing on the rocky islands).
The 5km track follows an old water race, built by 19th century miners to sluice their gold claims. Along the track you will find the world's southernmost palm tree, the nikau palm, growing here near it's southern limit.
The track can be started from Rapahoe 12km from Greymouth in the North(This end is not as steep from the beginning) or North Beach 6km from Greymouth from the south(steeper at the beginning of this end).
There are many well located resting places and a picnic table at the lookout (listen out for the unexpected blowholes)
