Walking and hiking in Aoraki / Mount Cook National Park

Aoraki / Mount Cook National Park is a rugged land of ice and rock, with 19 peaks over 3,000 metres including New Zealand's highest mountain, Aoraki / Mount Cook.

There are several short walks around Aoraki / Mount Cook village, many of which are well-graded and easy to access. The tracks offer views of the majestic Aoraki / Mount Cook and the surrounding area with native alpine bush.

Take a walk in the Tasman Valley. The Tasman Glacier, which is 29 km long and up to 3 km wide can be viewed from the short walks that start from the Blue Lakes Shelter.

The mountainous area also attracts expert climbers, prepared for a challenge.
