Ride from the wild food capital of New Zealand up into the wild mountain bike trails of Blue Spur.

Overview

Blue Spur is riddled with trails built by local mountain bikers for national level races. They are the perfect mix of old-school roughness and new-school flow. Spend an hour just getting to the top and back down, or a whole day riding every track at least once. Other than rocks, dippers, jumps and narrow trails weaving through pine forest, you should expect the unexpected! These trail are anything but predictable.

Riding the track

Pick up a map at the Hokitika i-SITE and ride up to the forest via Hokitika Heritage Walkway, which skirts past the airport.  Head down SeaSaw Track, and then up the main spine of Blue Spur on an old forestry road. Just near the top a signpost points the way to several mountain bike tracks. We recommend you start your decent with The Edge, followed by Stags Drop and Bad Boys. They are all full of character, but the best is yet to come. Try Slow Girls a couple of times, and then The Tunnels Track.
