Never-ending coastline and sandy white beaches make Northland an ideal place for walking and hiking.

Explore the stunning coastline and islands that Northland is known for on foot. The Urupukapuka Island Archaeological Walk is a great place to soak in stunning views of the Bay of Islands as well as learn about the fascinating pre-European history of the island.

If you're looking for a full day or two outdoors, you can't go past the Cape Brett Track. Traversing native bush and tall coastal ridges, this 8hr one-way hike incorporates spectacular views over the Bay of Islands, Cavalli Islands, and Poor Knights Islands. Look out for dolphins and whales before reaching the Cape Brett Lighthouse & Department of Conservation hut that's at the end of the track.

An easy access walk that takes about half a day in the Bay of Islands Coastal Walkway. Following the coast from Opua to Paihia, this 8 hour-return walk takes in pleasant views over the Bay of Islands, white sandy beaches and a mangrove boardwalk.
