Built to span the Waiau River, the Clifden Suspension Bridge is an impressive structure built from totara and Australian hardwood, with concrete towers and 28 wire ropes. It is a significant engineering achievement and the longest suspension bridge in New Zealand.

Trucks and cars traversed it from the 1920s and it remained in use until 1978 when the current bridge was opened downstream. Outside viewing is available at all times.
