The North Island of New Zealand is a paradise for beaches, boating and every kind of adventure in between. Starting on Auckland's shores, you'll visit the black sands of Piha before heading on a Northland circuit that includes the gorgeous beaches of the Bay of Islands, right up to Cape Reinga at the tip of the country, where two oceans meet.
You'll find yourself sand-boarding the dunes on 90 Mile Beach, cruising along the coast, kayaking on the Coromandel, and surfing in Raglan. There's plenty of time to play and sunbathe in between, and of course you'll be surrounded by unbelievable New Zealand landscapes to explore, wherever you go. Roads along this route can be windy. We recommend familiarising yourself with driving in New Zealand before getting behind the wheels.

Just thirty minutes after flying into Auckland you can be enjoying fish and chips on the beach in Mission Bay, a popular spot for Auckland locals.
Across the Harbour Bridge is Takapuna Beach, a stretch of sand where the native pohutakawa trees grow to the sand’s edge.
A drive to Auckland’s west coast beaches is a must-do. Hidden amongst the native trees of the Waitakere Ranges, these wild beaches are quite the contrast from beaches on the east coast. At Piha you can climb Lion Rock, and stop in for a coffee or an ice cream.
If you love boats, get out on Auckland’s Hauraki Gulf in a jet boat or on a jet ski, or to help sail one of New Zealand’s yachts from the America’s Cup.
For a day trip or an overnighter, you can’t go past a visit to Waiheke Island. Grab the ferry and spend the day exploring by scooter or the Beach Bum Bus, chill out at Onetangi Beach or enjoy yourself at one of Waiheke’s many vineyards.
