Jane’s Perfect Day
I would have a leisurely start to the day with breakfast at Coronation Lodge. Then start the day with a trip to the Kiwi Birdlife Park, wonder around the scenic park encountering many rare species of birds and reptiles and experience the live Kiwi feeding and conservation show ($38 per adult).
For lunch, I would ride up the Skyline Gondola to enjoy the spectacular scenery, have a fun luge ride and treat myself to a delightful buffet lunch in the Gondola Restaurant ($61 per adult for Gondola ride, buffet lunch & 1 luge
I would then take the exciting route down from the Gondola with a Zip Trek down to the base of the hill. This is an extremely exciting activity where you get to ‘fly’ through the trees on a zip line. Zip Trek are also very passionate about environmental conservation and you can learn a little about this throughout your ‘flying’ through the trees. (Full 6 lines – Kea $179 or 4 lines – Moa $129)
For my perfect evening, I’d enjoy a hearty South African braai style meal at Flame Restaurant with spectacular steak and ribs.
Then what better way to finish an active and exciting day than relax in the comfort of outside sofas and sip a cocktail or two at Barmuda.
Mel’s Perfect Day
Start the morning with a hearty breakfast at Vudu Café followed by a walk around the lakefront and through the Queenstown Gardens to enjoy the scenery and fresh mountain air. I might even jump on the K Jet for a 1hr spin around Lake Wakatipu and up the Kawarau and Shotover Rivers. ($110 per adult)
I would make my way back to the Lodge by 12:30 to be picked up by Queenstown Wine Trail for the Original Wine Tour. Enjoy lunch at Gibbston Valley and sampling the outstanding wine of Central Otago at 4 different vineyards over a 5 hour tour. ($129 plus the cost of lunch).
My perfect Queenstown day would end with cocktails and tapas at Lombardi Bar in the Hotel St Moritz which has stunning views over Lake Wakatipu and toward the Remarkables. I love restaurant hopping so I would probably pop into Atlas Beer Café at Steamer Wharf for some of their amazing tapas and end up in Eichardts Private Hotel for a little more tapas and wine in the very stylish yet cosy Eichardts Bar before calling it a day!
Kate’s Perfect Day
I would want to pack as much as I can into my stay in Queenstown, so I would take advantage of the ‘Queenstown Combo’s’ option (and save a bit of money while I’m at it!)
First I will need a good breakfast to get me through the day so I would head off to The Post Office Café – a favourite amongst the locals (they also cater for a variety of different dietary requirements) for a yummy breakfast & the best coffee in town.
Then to choose which great Combo option??? Since we are in the Adventure Capital of the world we better do something crazy! The ‘Shotover Canyon Combo’ is a great option and includes the mad Canyon Swing, a ride on the Shotover Jet, and then a Helicopter ride up the Skippers Canyon to be dropped off for some white water rafting back down the Shotover river. The cost for this combo is $578 per person.
Or another great option is the ‘Shotover Freefall’ which includes all the activities above but rather than a Canyon Swing, it’s jumping out of a plane and doing a Skydive instead! With Queenstown located next to a beautiful lake and surrounded by mountains it surely must be one of the most picturesque places in the world to do a Skydive I think. This combo option is great value at only $645 per person.
After that big day and all that excitement no doubt I would be hungry and need something quick so off to the world famous Fergburger I would go for the most amazing burgers you will probably ever eat! Then perhaps a bit of downtime is required so I would pop in for dessert upstairs at Prime Restaurant with possibly the best views in town, and enjoy the sunset over Lake Wakatipu.
