New Zealand's only covered rugby ground will host The British & Irish Lions when they play the Highlanders in 2017.
The 2017 series sees the British & Irish Lions play the recently crowned Super Rugby champions The Highlanders at the Dunedin’s Forsyth Barr Stadium on 13 June.
The stadium is the only covered ground in New Zealand, and holds just over 30,000 people. Sport, particularly rugby, is firmly imbedded into Dunedin culture, hardly surprising in the Scottish-flavoured environment known as the Edinburgh of the south.
As well as its rich Scottish heritage Dunedin also boasts some fine Edwardian and Victorian architecture as well as New Zealand’s oldest university, and populations of curious wildlife that inhabit the Otago Peninsula.
Author Mark Twain once said of Dunedin: “The people are Scotch. They stopped here on their way from home to heaven thinking they had arrived.”
