Juliette Binoche finds a place to relax in Annandale just an hour's drive from Christchurch in the South Island.

While filming in Wellington, French actress Juliette Binoche, escaped her busy schedule for a few days and travelled to the South Island. Juliette says she spends much of her life travelling and always likes to get a feel for the countries she visits. She spent several days relaxing in Annandale on Banks Peninsula, just outside Christchurch.

“It was just beautiful. Just to be amongst the elements, the sea, the air, the earth, the animals, the plants, the minerals. It is sort of the essence of creation and it was wonderful to just breathe in and take some time feeling the sun. It is so necessary, especially when you work so hard and travel a lot.”

Juliette says New Zealand has a very special spirit, and she regrets she wasn’t able to stay longer.

For one of the key cast in Section 9, New Zealand is not unfamiliar. Tawanda spent five years living in New Zealand and jokes that at times he felt like a tour guide for the rest of the crew.

He took a trip to the South Island which he describes as unforgettable. A once in a lifetime experience. “I saw amazing landscapes. The land was straight out of Jurassic park. When I first saw them (the Southern Alps) I thought I was in a postcard.”

Tawanda also loved his time shooting in Wellington. “Wellington is a really chilled city, there’s a really nice atmosphere. We went to red rocks and saw seals, and out to Kapiti Coast and saw dolphins. The seafood is great, and I had oysters for the first time.”
