Since opening to the public in the early 1980s, learners have flocked to the slopes of Cardrona Alpine Resort. Combining user-friendly beginner runs and high quality snow conditions means first-timers have an ideal environment for a successful outcome.
Learning to ski or snowboard can be daunting for some, especially those who are not familiar with alpine environments. Due to Cardrona's wide open slopes there is plenty of space to practice turns and get down the mountain safely, even on busy days.
After spending some time on the flat, first-timers typically progress rapidly to the conveyor belt on the learner slope. From there, the McDougall chair is an ideal next step. Even though it reaches the second highest point on the mountain, there is an abundance of beginner trails perfect for those finding their feet.
Once at the top, a cruisy green run down Skyline includes stunning views of the Southern Alps and Queenstown...a memory that will remain for years to come. What make it even more special is that it may can quite easily be your first run from the top of the mountain.The Skyline run is the perfect place to practice your skills and once you are turning comfortably and controlling your speed, you're free to explore!
By the end of your first week on snow, you could easily have made your way to Captain’s Basin – and reward yourself with a slice of their legendary pizza! Traversing back along Queenstown Return to the Main Basin provides some incredible photo opportunities of Lake Wakatipu and the Southern Alps.
