Hanmer Springs Ski Area (HSSA) is called the friendly mountain as the atmosphere that is created by the staff is relaxing & fun. Affordable skiing for everyone is paramount at this club field.
HSSA is run by the Amuri Ski Club (Inc), a voluntary group of members who ensure that affordable skiing and snowboarding is available to all residents and visitors of the North Canterbury region. The ski area is only 17 km from the thermal resort village of Hanmer Springs and a shuttle bus is available if you are not confident on alpine roads (chains must be carried at all times).
The terrain is varied with 10% beginners, 60% intermediate and 30% advanced slopes. Three tows operate with a fixed grip rope tow for beginners, a nutcracker rope tow and NZ's longest Poma (807m) for intermediates and advanced skiers and snowboarders.
Elevation is 1769m above sea level with 52ha of skiable terrain on a 310m vertical drop.
Daily lessons are timetabled for both skiers and snowboarders.
Ski / board / clothing rentals and hire are avilable from the mountain as well as the village at the Hanmer Adventure Centre on Conical Hill road.
