If you are a golf lover visiting New Zealand, you will definitely want to take the opportunity to play a round at one of these spectacularly unique courses only found in New Zealand.
Located at the top of the North Island is Kauri Cliffs, a par 72 championship course that measures 6,510 metres (7,119 yards) and with five sets of tees it can challenge every skill level. The point of difference at Kauri Cliffs is the absolutely stunning views across the Pacific Ocean from 15 of the holes. Six of these holes are also played alongside cliffs that fall dramatically to the ocean below. When playing the inland holes you find yourself winding through marsh, forest and farmland. For an added touch of luxury, Kauri Cliffs is also home to the Lodge at Kauri Cliffs, the definition of five-star luxury overlooking the exquisite golf course and across the Pacific Ocean.
Wairakei Golf Club and Sanctuary
10 minutes from Taupo is the Wairakei Golf Course and Sanctuary. At Wairakei not only do you play golf on a world class championship course but you are completely immersed in the unspoiled beauty of a wildlife sanctuary. In 2011 a two meter high predator-proof fence was built around the existing golf course. This has led to an environment where fallow deer and beautiful birdlife such as the iconic kiwi have been able to roam free and prosper. Abundant birdsong and splendid scenery make for a relaxing and memorable day out with friends on the golf course.
Rotorua Golf Club- Arikikapakapa
The Rotorua Golf Course is par 70 course and the premier course with a unique point of difference. Arikikapakapa means the gentle sound of plopping mud. That’s right, this golf course is played on an active geothermal area. Players make their way around the course navigating the many geothermal features that dot the course. With the many mud pools, steam vents and the occasional geothermal crater, accuracy is a must at this course. Visitors are welcome to take advantage of the club’s fully licenced bar and restaurant. The Rotorua Golf Club is close to major Rotorua hotels and motels, and right next door to the Whakarewarewa Thermal Reserve and Te Puia.
