To market, to market

Visit one of Auckland’s bustling markets for a true taste of the city. In the inner city, markets such as La Cigale in Parnell and City markets are most popular. The Otara Markets and Auckland Night Markets are perfect spots to get a taste of the city’s vibrant and mixed culture. Further afield the Matakana market, a true country market, is a gourmet haven with locals and visitors packing it to the seams every weekend. Coatesville Country Market and Clevedon Village Market are other country markets that get a special mention.

Explore the wine regions

You can sip the best of local wines in many city restaurants, but an experience not to be missed is exploring Auckland’s distinct wine regions. The most popular by many miles is Waiheke Island – only about half-an-hour’s ferry ride from Central City.

In west Auckland, Kumeu is a heritage wine area with origins dating back to the 1930s when Croatians first settled here. As a result it is home to some of New Zealand’s oldest wineries. If you’re heading north from the city, Matakana is a wine region not to be missed.
