The track begins behind the DOC hut at Lane Cove and rises quickly through regenerating bush to the base of the large rock known as Kairara or Dukes Nose. A chain runs from the top of the rock and is used to pull yourself up the last 10 meters. It is totally manageable but not for the faint of heart.
From the top the views are awesome.. Down to the Cavallis and up to Doubtless Bay.
It takes 20 minutes to walk up. 15 minutes on the top....don't fall off , as its a long way down...and 15 minutes to walk back to the hut at Lane Cove.
Many people rate it as a totally unexpected geology and geography for Northland and a highlight of their time in Northland.
