Gisborne is located in the North Island, Out East. Experience boutique wineries over summer, relaxing in the sun, feeding the stingrays, learning to surf.

Gisborne experiences some of New Zealand's finest weather over summer. Sure Gisborne is a little off the beaten track, but it is definitely worth the visit, with its pristine golden sand beaches, surf, shopping, fine dining and our world renowned wines.

Gisborne - the fourth largest wine region in New Zealand - has the climate to support a wide range of different wines. Of recent we have been recognised for our chardonnay, and often get referred to as the 'chardonnay capital of New Zealand'.

During summer the boutique cellars of Gisborne open their cellar doors to customers. Gisborne has approximately five to seven cellar doors which you can visit over summer, just the right amount for a two-day visit to our wine region.

The great news is that there are also two wineries that are certified organic and use biodynamic practices in the vineyard – Wrights Vineyard and Winery and The Millton Vineyard. Both vineyards have been producing wines for over 15 years and are located in Manutuke, Gisborne.

The cellar doors are open seven days over summer and at Wrights Vineyard and Winery they now have a restaurant on site which can provide you with matched wine and food experiences, plus live music on the weekends over summer.

Both wineries make their wines on site and can offer winery tours and allow walks through their vineyards upon request.

Gisborne makes for a great family destination, with a top holiday park accommodation located right by the beach. The beach is great for swimming and is monitored by a surf lifesaving guards. Further along the beach at Mid Way, the surfing can be pumping. If you are a beginner there are several companies in Gisborne which offer surf lessons and hireage of equipment – this makes for a great day of fun in the sun.

Gisborne is located on the East Coast of New Zealand and makes a great place for a drive around the coast. On the way around at Tatapouri Beach, there is a company called Dive Tatapouri which offers feeding stingray tours. This is safe, exhilarating at times and safe for the family of all ages.
