New for 2015/16 in the Queenstown Bike Park (QBP) is an 800m long jump trail with jumps varying in size from 3 to 12m – all forgiving table top jumps. The trail will be similar to the famous A-Line at Whistler Bike Park, and the Rollercoaster trail at Hafjell Bike Park in Norway. The local Mountain Bike Club members have provided a huge amount of volunteer labour to bring the project to fruition for this summer. The QBP has an elevation of 790m and vertical of 450m. There are more than 20 runs in the 30km+ trail network. 30% of the trails are green, 20% blue and 50% black including 8 double black diamond grade 6 trails. Full suspension bikes suitable for the QBP can be rented from Vertigo Bikes conveniently located in lower Brecon Street in downtown Queenstown.
Also new for the summer is a great scenic, gentle ride, suitable for everyone from beginners called Station 2 Station. The ride takes about an hour for the 12km trail between Mt Nicolas Station and Walter Peak Station. Two amazing scenic lake cruises are included in the trip, one on the Spirit of Queenstown Catamaran and the other on the famous steamship the TSS Earnslaw.
There is something for all MTB riders in Queenstown, that's for sure!
