There are still at least six more weeks remaining in the New Zealand ski season this year. If you have a trip planned and are looking to try something different then try these exciting options below.
If you have never been in a helicopter before, or skied crowd-free powder stashes, this is the time to try. From your base in Queenstown or Wanaka, you can be whisked away from civilisation and flown through spectacular scenery to remote slopes where the snow is all yours. Spend the day enjoying fresh tracks, stopping only for a gourmet lunch on the side of a spectacular mountain range. Harris Mountain Heli-ski have great terrain available in the Southern Lakes and will give you an experience you will never forget.
2. Snow- mobiling
Operating from Snow Farm, Over Snow Tours can take you on an exhilarating journey through the Central Otago high country. Halfway between Queenstown and Wanaka this truly is a special place. Snowmobiling is a super fun way to get your snow kicks without having to expend much energy yourself. With fabulous views over the Southern Lakes, including Mt Aspiring, The Remarkables, and the Pisa range, not to mention the odd Lake or two this is a snow experience not to be missed.
3. Snow - Tubing
Great fun for children and adults alike, tubing involves hurtling down a slope in inner tubes. It produces loads of laughs and screams and isn't quite as sedate as you would expect. Operating out of the Remarkables ski area, it is a great option for younger kids who have had enough of skiing, and for those larger kids who like an excuse to have a break!
4. Hot-air ballooning
For those that don't actually want to get anywhere near snow, but think it looks pretty, this is the perfect way to explore the winter scenery from a safe distance. Sunrise Balloons operate out of Queenstown weather permitting, and launch from a number of different sites. As you float around the Wakatipu Basin you will discover life from a brand new angle, and it is a discovery that you will not forget in a hurry. Snowcapped peaks, rivers, forests and lakes like millponds are only some of the scenes that you will enjoy. A glass or two of champagne on landing just polishes off the trip. A perfect start to the morning.
Of course NZ Snow Tours can organise these activities and more when you travel to The Southern Lakes with us. Just ask us about these experiences when booking and we will happily take care of the details for you.
