Cafes & Restaurants
A real favourite hangout for us locals is Eruption Cafe, a little off the beaten track but the coffees worth it. Salute Delicatessen offers the only Cheese Room in the central North Island, and boasts an amazing array of European and New Zealand deli items. Stir Cafe Taupo is right on the harbour and according to Lonely Planet offers “killer coffee, scrumptious sweet and savoury crepes” and we have to agree! For Taupo’s organic whole food cafe check out Fine Fettle Cafe. Here you can also pick up yummy gluten and additive free jams, chutneys and sauces. For an award winning meal eat at Plateau Restaurant & Bar. This local favourite serves the finest Kiwi inspired food and New Zealand craft beers. A new venue to Taupo is the Vine Eatery who have designed a menu of fresh, seasonal and delicious plates, and offer the Scenic Cellars complete wine collection to choose from. Look out for Jolly Good Fellows Restaurant & Bar, a casual British Pub themed dining experience that has become an icon in Taupo. Not only to they offer excellent food and service but their views of the lake are some of the best in town.
