Tour operators such as Ability Adventures and Accessible Kiwi Tours can provide accessible holiday packages for individuals and groups. Most transport operators do cater for people with special needs, but it is recommended to phone ahead to inform operators and check availability. Some urban transport buses are equipped to cater for the disabled, and they are marked outside of the bus.
Most parking areas have parks specifically allocated for the disabled. Parking concessions are available for people with disabilities, and temporary display cards can be issued for the length of a visitor's stay.
Disability parking permits issued in other countries do not automatically work in New Zealand. To obtain a New Zealand mobility parking permit, please bring your home mobility card or a medical certificate as proof of disability.
