Christchurch International Airport receives flights from Australia, China, Singapore and Fiji, as well as a large number of domestic locations.

International flights operate directly to and from four Australian destinations - Brisbane, Gold Coast, Sydney and Melbourne, with direct flights to and from Perth during summer. Flights also run regularly to and from China (Guangzhou), Fiji and Singapore. International Airlines flying into Christchurch include Air New Zealand(opens in new window), China Southern AirlinesCathay Pacific,(opens in new window) Emirates(opens in new window), Fiji Airways(opens in new window), Jetstar(opens in new window), Qantas(opens in new window), Singapore Airlines(opens in new window) and Virgin Australia(opens in new window).

Domestic flights are operated by Air New Zealand(opens in new window), Jetstar(opens in new window) and Air Chathams(opens in new window), and connect with a range of destinations in the North, South and Chatham Islands.

Transport Options

Christchurch Airport is located about 12 kilometres north west of the city centre.

Bus

$8.50 adult one way - about 35 minutes with stops along the way. You may need to walk or catch a second bus to reach your final destination.

There are two bus lines; the number 29(opens in new window) and the Purple Line(opens in new window) connect which both connect the airport to the city and tickets can be purchased from the driver at:

1-way $8.50 Adult/ $4 Child

Return $15 Adult/ $7 Child (can be used for travel on different days)

The bus services are available just outside of the airport terminal for $4 Adult, but this is a 5 minute walk from Christchurch Airport.

Shuttle

$19 for one person

$24 for 2 people

A shuttle(opens in new window) is a group taxi – shared with other passengers travelling to various destinations. The fare depends on how many people are travelling but an approximate cost is $19 for the first person and an additional $5 for every person after that. Shuttles can take approximately 30 minutes to reach your destination, but is a door-to-door service.

Taxi

Approximately $45 to $65- about 15 to 20 minutes

There are several taxi companies(opens in new window), including Uber, available and prices may vary. Taxis licensed to operate from the airport are required to meet the airport company’s service standards. If you’re travelling to the airport by taxi, make sure you allow plenty of time.

Car rental

Major rental car companies operate from the terminal building. Bookings are strongly recommended.
