Proximity

Visitors to Renwick have one thing on their mind - wine. Hire a bike and pedal from vineyard to vineyard; let the wineries tempt you with tastings.

Sniff the air in Renwick and see if you can detect the scent of sauvignon blanc. With over 30 cellar doors to chose from and many in close proximity, you can hire a bike or take a tour.

The town is small, but there are B&Bs, cottages and various other types of accommodation scattered around the district. Stop for a leisurely lunch amongst the vines right where the grapes that made the wine you are sipping came from.

There is evidence that grapes were planted in the district as early as 1870, but it was only in the 1970s that the Marlborough phenomenon burst into life. Eighty-five per cent of New Zealand’s sauvignon blanc is grown here; pinot noir is the region’s other specialty. Functional facts: Approx. population 1900, information centre, basic shops and services, domestic airport (Blenheim).
