Continue on to Taupo and prepare to walk the Tongariro Alpine Crossing in one day. Travel through alpine scenery, traverse mountains and uncover spectacular emerald green lakes.

Lake Taupo

Spend a leisurely morning exploring Taupo. In the afternoon, drive from Taupo to Ruapehu.

Mount Ruapehu is the highest mountain in the North Island. In the winter months (June-September) Ruapehu offers snow goers the choice of  three different ski fields. 

There are many activities on offer - take a scenic flight around the volcanic landscape, or travel south to Waiouru to visit the National Army Museum. Wrap up warm - this area can be chilly in the winter months!
