Things to do
Just as beautiful as ever, the Christchurch Botanic Gardens are 21 hectares of lush flora and fauna displays of local and international origin and flavour. In the cooler months, there is still plenty to see and admire, as well as being surrounded by 165 hectares of leafy green walkways and playing fields.
Recently reopened, the Christchurch Gondola is always a tourist favourite, with stunning views over the entire city, Lyttleton Harbour and Banks Peninsula. Ride in a safe cable car to the top of the Port Hills, and take your time taking the view in. Also a great spot for a meal or snack.
The continually popular inner city outdoor mall is located in Cashel Street. A temporary replacement for the previous CBD shopping district, as well as a range of new and local retailers. It’s a great way to spend an afternoon, with many cafes and food options along with some of our best and funkiest stores.
Christchurch has a range of premier golf courses available all within 1 hours’ drive of the CBD. Hagley Golf Club is in the heart of the city and has a full 18 holes. Clearwater Golf Club is just 5min from Christchurch Airport, with peaceful surrounds and luxury accommodation and dining available. Pegasus Golf Club is 25km north of Christchurch, set in the new town of Pegasus, with a range of other activities to keep the kids occupied while you play a round. Terrace Downs is about 1 hour from Christchurch, set high up on the foothills of the Rakaia River with stunning scenery.
