Explore Waioeka Gorge Scenic Reserve, a rare gem in the East Coast that boasts superb fishing spots and quaint historical landmarks.

The Waioeka Gorge Scenic Reserve is a spectacular conservation area of native forest and regenerating farmland. Part of the reserve runs alongside the Waioeka River, making it a popular spot for fishing, swimming, and rafting. Visitors also enjoy a variety of walking and tramping tracks, ranging from easy to challenging, that show off the park’s best features, including historic bridges and Māori pā (villages) sites.

Popular walks include the Tauranga Track, a wonderful short walk that crosses a 100-year-old suspension bridge and follows both the Tauranga Stream and Waioeka River. Another great short walk is the Little Manganuku Track, which starts from the historic Manganuku Stream Bridge and climbs to a saddle overlooking the valley. Campers will Manganuku Campsite(opens in new window) by the Manganuku Stream, a spot that’s known to be good for fishing.
