Health & Safety FAQ

Requirements for Health & Safety when registering in the Tourism Business Database

Q: Why do I need to meet my legal obligations under the Health & Safety at Work Act to be listed on newzealand.com?

In response to the new Health and Safety at Work Act 2015 (HSWA) which came into law in April 2016, Tourism New Zealand has sought legal advice regarding our role in recommending tourism experiences and providing a platform for product suppliers to promote their business. In response to this we updated terms and conditions to be listed on newzealand.com.

This will help ensure that newzealand.com connects consumers to quality and legally compliant product.

Q: How do I confirm that I meet my obligations under the new HSWA2015?

Please go to www.register.newzealand.com(opens in new window) and sign in using your account details. If you have forgotten your account details (e-mail and/or password) please don’t hesitate to contact us on register@tnz.govt.nz(opens in new window)

You will need to confirm that your business fits the legal requirements by ticking the "I confirm I meet my obligations under the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015".

Please refer to Worksafe New Zealand to find out whether you meet your obligations under the new HSWA2015.

Q: Do I need to provide evidence of meeting my obligations under the HSWA2015?

No, Tourism New Zealand does not need you to provide evidence of your health & safety measures.

Q: I don’t meet my obligations, what do I do?

Your listing will become inactive in our operator database and will be hidden from newzealand.com until you sign in to www.register.newzealand.com and are able to confirm that you meet your obligations under the HSWA2015.

Q: What does this mean for my listing on my regional tourism website?

Many regional tourism websites use the Tourism New Zealand Operator Database listings. If they do, your listing status on the Tourism New Zealand Operator Database will also affect your listing status on your regional tourism website. Please seek advice from your local RTO if you are unsure whether your listing is affected on your regional tourism website.
