ANZAC Bridge, is situated just north of Pukaha Mount Bruce on State Highway 2 at Kaiparoro. It’s one of those places that we all drive past, often on the way somewhere else so we haven’t factored in stopping time. This time, on your way, give yourself an extra 30 minutes to explore this historical spot.
The ANZAC Bridge is a commemoration of Mauriceville’s war veterans; those who went and didn’t return. In 2010 the bridge was given Category 1 status by the New Zealand Historic Places Trust. The names of those locals that fell in World War 1 are inscribed on the bridge and are a constant reminder of their sacrifice.
The reserve has a nice bush walk and also a well maintained track beside the road to the ANZAC Bridge. There is a picnic table and river access is excellent and is good for a swim in warmer weather.
