Soaring high above Queenstown - Paragliding & Hang-gliding

With stunning lake and mountain views in every direction there’s no better place than Queenstown to take a tandem paragliding or hang-gliding flight.

Soar like an eagle in a hang-glider swooping on the thermals in banked turns or float in lazy circles thousands of feet in the air with your heart in your mouth on a tandem paraglide.

There are a number of great paragliding and hang-gliding companies located in Queenstown, all with friendly and experienced tandem pilots. A tandem paragliding and hang-gliding flight lets you experience the thrill of free flying without going through a lengthy learning process. There are almost no age or size limits for tandem paragliding.

In Queenstown there are two great locations to choose from - paraglide or hang-glide from Coronet Peak, a quick 25 minute drive from Queenstown, offering stunning views over the Wakatipu Basin and the surrounding mountain peaks or take the leap from above the Skyline Complex on Bob’s Peak with a paragliding flight you’ll never forget as you soar over central Queenstown looking over the crystal clear waters of Lake Wakatipu.

You can hang-glide and paraglide in Queenstown all year round. Allow 2 to 2.5 hours for a trip to Coronet Peak and an hour to 1.5 hours to take a flight from Bob’s Peak (including the gondola ride). All you need is sensible footwear (sneakers or trainers), a warm top and your sense of adventure. Your actual flight time in the air varies depending on the location and the time of year but ranges from 10 – 25 minutes.

Hang-gliding and paragliding are weather dependence activities but luckily in Queenstown there are many flyable days during the year.

“When once you have tasted flight, you will forever walk with your eyes turned skyward, for there you will always long to return.” Leonardo Da Vinci
