Located 5 minutes from the Taupo Town Centre, Taupo Bungy is New Zealand’s highest water touch bungy. If completing a bungy jump has been on your bucket list for a while why not take the opportunity to check it off in one of the most picturesque locations in the world? The Huka Jet takes you on an exhilarating half-hour long ride along the Waikato River to the base of the mighty Huka Falls. Prepare for speeds of up to 80km/h and their trademark 360 degree spin. If you have your own vehicle you will find Huka Jet located only 10 minutes from Taupo in the Wairakei Tourist Park otherwise they offer a complimentary coach transfer on request.
Orakei Korako (also know as 'The Hidden Valley') is a highly active geothermal area located on the Waikato River at Lake Ohakuri. One of two main highlights at Orakei Korako is the Silica Terraces. The other is Ruatapu Cave (Sacred Hole). The cave extends more than 35m down to a hot pool at the bottom named 'Waiwhakaata' (Pool of Mirrors) which is one of only two known caves in the world located in a geothermal field. Orakei Korako is approximately a 25 minute drive from Taupo.
Taupo offers multiple options for mountain biking. The Great Lake Trail, part of the New Zealand Cycle Trail network, is 73 kilometres of trail that flows through native forest, along the western shore of Lake Taupō with breath-taking views across to Tongariro National Park.The full trail can be ridden over 2 – 3 days or there are shorter rides available. Craters MTB Park is 10 minutes north of Taupo and contains approximately 50km of singletrack riding with trails ranging from beginner to expert. Lake Taupo is the largest lake by surface area in New Zealand and the mighty Tongariro River is considered an angler’s paradise. Come summer time the lake and region’s waterways are well stocked with Brown and Rainbow trout.
