FAQ - Changes to Tourism Business Database

Tourism New Zealand's platform for listing tourism businesses, product listings and deals has been upgraded. Here’s everything that you need to know.

We’ve made improvements to our Tourism Business Database in order to make it easier to use. This creates a better experience for all users, increases referral rates, and provides the industry with a platform that is fit for the future.

The database has a new look and feel, but you are still able to login, edit your business information, and create and edit listings and deals. The user guides have been updated and additional support is available by emailing register@tnz.govt.nz.

When did the new system go live?

The new Tourism Business Database launched in November 2019.

Is my business listing available in the new database?

Yes. Existing accounts were taken across to the new system including all listings and deals. We have created a more secure system as part of the revamp, so you may be prompted to update your password the next time you log in.

Where do I log in, and how do I edit my listing?

You can manage all the content for your business and product listings that show on newzealand.com by logging into the Tourism Business Database (register.newzealand.com). Once logged in you can change whatever information you would like. More information is available on our Operator Help page.

How can I maximize the value of the platform for my business?

We carefully considered the functionality of the database to see what was working well and what could be improved to help users improve their referral rates to their business websites.

We have talked to industry to see what is working well and what could be improved to help the industry maximize the value of the platform to their business. We found that articles deliver less than 1% of total annual referrals from newzealand.com. In contrast, business listings and deals deliver 80% of referrals.

As a result of this review, the ability to create articles was removed from the system in September 2019. To help you take advantage of referrals through deals and listings, please see the Operator Help Page.

Who has designed and built the new Tourism Business Database?

Tourism New Zealand went through a robust tender process and selected the internationally renowned company, Catalyst, to partner with for this project.

If you have any questions about this process, please email us at register@tnz.govt.nz.
