Another month goes by in 2013 and another adventure awaits me. What more could Lake Taupo possibly have to offer? The answer? Plenty!
With the autmnal rain upon us and the leaves changing to golden and orange, I figure this is the best time to take advantage of the mud and grit whilst imbibing in the clear autmnal air and admiring the fiery coloured scenery, and how? By Quad Bike, of course.
The beauty of quad biking is all of the thrill and not too much skill, you get to travel all over our beautiful land in the Central Plateau at your own skill level, without too much sweat and pain! If you are looking to get off the beaten track, see the bush and the land without having to trek for miles then quad biking is for you. Give it full throttle and skid through the mud for some challenging adrenalin highs or put-put along the track following some native birds through the bush for a more mellow undertaking.
I thoroughly enjoyed my adventure, you get kitted out in helmet and gloves and briefed on safety and protocol (they even have wet-weather gear for hire if you need it). The bikes are simple and easy to use (provided you follow instructions), the guides are friendly and accommodating- slower riders to the back, the more confident at the front- so you don't get held up by a slow-coach or pressured by that annoying guy revving behind you! And the real bonus? You don't get a sore butt and aching legs! With the terrain varying from rolling grassland, to dimly lit bushland to gritty plains, there is something for everyone to enjoy.
Other bonuses are that it is an all weather activity, so if the sun is shining, you can bronze your arms and take in some rays or if it is raining cats and dogs you can taste the mud in your teeth and water spray your neighbour as you plunge through the puddles. You can also take your camera along for the all important memories as there are plenty of stops along the way for you photo opportuntities. There are very few restrictions with this adventure.
If you think quad biking is your thing, you can even do a multi day adventure bordering the World Heritage area of Tongariro National Park, an area of outstanding national beauty and active volcanoes! This is a great idea for families with older children (time to bond people!) or groups of mates looking for a weekend out of the ordinary, a stag party, couples retreat, backpacker adventure - you decide.
So dust off your outdoor gear, and prepare to enjoy. You'll sleep like a baby after this energy filled, action packed adventure- I did!
