Follow till you reach the end of Rainbow Falls Rd., where on your left you’ll find the access to the Rainbow Falls track. The track takes about 10 minutes one way, and is also accessible by wheelchair. Along the track you’ll come across three viewing platforms that provide stunning views of the waterfall, a great opportunity to take a snap! As you continue along the track, you’ll come to a junction where the TeAraroa Trail joins the track you’re on (Kerikeri River Track). Carry on down the hill and you’ll soon arrive at your beautiful destination.

Hunua Falls

In the western part of Hunua Ranges Regional Park is an amazing 30m high waterfall, a part of the Wairoa River. Pick up your trusty car rental from the East Tamaki depot and road trip 45mins southeast of Auckland to Falls Rd. At the end of this road, you’ll find a safe place to park your car hire and access to the track that leads visitors to this hidden gem.

Make a day out of this road trip and check out the falls from a different view by heading on one of these walking tracks:

Kaimai Waterhole

This is 20 minutes south of our suppliers Tauranga depot, located at the foot of the Kaimai Mountain (2 min. drive from the McLaren falls turn off). Turn off on ‘Poripori Road’ and park your rental car up on the gravel patch to your right. What may not be so breathtakingly beautiful at first is what we call ‘the rough that hides the diamond’. We highly recommend you load up all your necessities in your backpack, because your adventure to paradise commences on foot from here and return trips will be unfavourable. Follow the gravel path that leads down to the Wairoa River. Locate the safest, shallowest part of the river and cross over to where an oasis awaits you. But like every valuable thing in this world, you have to work hard to find this diamond! Continue on foot over the rocky terrain, towards the overgrown bush. Here you will find a treaded dirt track that will lead you to the sweetest summer swim spot. Gushing fresh waterfalls, small rock pools, cliffsides to jump off and plenty of space on the rocks to soak up some sun or share a picnic lunch.

Blue Springs / Te Waihou Walkway

Or, head 3.6km along Leslie Rd for a faster access to the crystal clear oasis. Due to the enivronmental impact visitors are no longer allowed to swim in the Blue Springs, but this sweet summer spot offers a tranquil adventure alongside the pristine river anyway. The springs act as a natural free aquarium by the way it showcases its beautiful underwater life and habitat. So make sure to pack your camera to snap a shot of one of New Zealand’s purest water supplies.
